I put this one into my drafts and then forgot 👉👈
If you still want an ask, for anyone you want:
🌅 (sunrise) - What does your oc look forward to every day? Do they have something to look forward to in the first place? What makes them wake up in the morning? Why do they want to be alive?
Thanks for the ask! I’ll give a few characters here who show up a lot. Mind you, these answers are sometimes specific to certain times in their lives, as a couple of the continuities they’re in span 20 years or more.
Topher
He’s pretty much a workaholic, so he gets up to do whatever medical work (being a lab technician who smuggles subjects out, being a field medic in a civil war, being a medic on a space ship, and working at a health clinic for refugees, depending on the continuity and time within it) he’s doing at the time. There’s definitely been times where that’s the only thing keeping him going, especially when he isolates himself from his friends.
Harlowe
In general, pure spite keeps her getting up. She wasn’t built to last, so every new day is a “fuck you” to the people who created - and badly abused - her. She also always has people to protect (one of her best friend’s kids, among others, in one continuity) or rescue (finding her partner who was disappeared, in another). It’s not exactly looking forward to something as much as knowing she’s needed.
Lenavee
Primarily it’s looking forward to seeing her loved ones. In one continuity, it’s primarily her partner, his kids, and their two housemates later on in the story. In the other, this is especially true for the person she’s in love with while they’re working together. She also looks forward to playing and performing music, which eventually becomes her career in one form or other in both stories. Finally, she knows she needs to keep getting up because the people around her need someone to be supportive of them - especially those who otherwise have few if any positive connections.
Barclay
He keeps getting up to prove himself, first to his abusive boss, and much later to his found family who rescues him from captivity. The second one is much more fulfilling - even if a lot of the time it’s just feeding and caring for their many animals - though he struggles more with doing it because he’s extremely traumatized and depressed at the time. During the period of time he was in captivity, though, he had nothing to look forward to, and often had no sense of time so he wouldn’t have even known it was morning.

For Usalmy, Sarah, and Koutoujian:
be honest: did they deserve it?
what do you think about caretaker?
do you have a preferred title or would you rather victims call you by name?
have you ever killed? would you?
For Lenavee and Harlowe as both whumpees and caretakers:
what do you think about whumpee?
what do you think about whumper?
what do you think about caretaker?
have you ever killed? would you?
All five of these characters have multiple whumpers, whumpees, caretakers, or all three. I'm going to assume this is in the present day in the Kohat continuity.
Usalmy
Be honest… did they deserve it?
She would say that no, Morton absolutely didn’t deserve how much she’s done for him over the years. Trying to help him eat healthily, providing constant reassurances with no improvement in his mindset, making sure he so much as cleaned himself, and so the list goes on. She would vehemently deny mistreating him for most of that time, if it even occurred to her that the question could be interpreted that way.
What do you think about caretaker?
There's several caretakers that could be referred to here: Kybel, Lenavee, and Harlowe.
Kybel and Lenavee she both thinks are trying to steal Morton from her (even as she tells him that no one would want him or he's too difficult for anyone to put up with). Kybel she sees at getting involved in things that are not his business, namely her marriage. With Lenavee, Usalmy seemingly manages to assume that she's both an airhead and that she's conniving and exploitative. She also hates Kybel for being gay, and she hates Lenavee for being Hiukree.
Meanwhile, she thinks Harlowe needs to be in prison for her violent tendencies (which Usalmy doesn't realize are almost exclusively directed at people like her, who abuse others)... and only because it isn't possible to send her back to the labs, because they don't exist anymore.
Do you have a preferred title or would you rather victims call you by name?
Usalmy would bristle at the description of Morton as a victim of hers. "He'd call be my own name," she'd say testily. "He is my husband, after all."
Have you ever killed? Would you?
“Of course not, why would you ask that?” Usalmy asks, very affronted.
To be fair, Usalmy doesn’t actually kill Lenavee when she throws her down a flight of stairs and stomps on her antennae repeatedly. That’s not for lack of trying, though.
And she’s all but literally hid the bodies for someone else, namely…
Sarah
Be honest… did they deserve it?
"Of course they do," Sarah says, referring to the young adults that have been sent to Usalmy's school for so-called emotional growth. "They're troubled kids. They weren't sent to summer camp here. A little tough love is the least they deserve." Her expression becomes a twisted grin at the word love.
"Or... oh, you mean them?" she asks, referring to Usalmy and Morton, and laughs. "They allowed me to do what I want as long as it didn't touch them. How can they say that they don't deserve it now that it has?"
What do you think about caretaker?
Sarah is amused by them, especially Zail, despite his best efforts to protect the people trapped in either of Usalmy's operations, because he's so bad at it. And he makes such sounds. Sounds of frustration, mostly, but the startled noises are the best. Harlowe also amuses her, because while she's more dangerous than Zail, Sarah has also been able to get one over on her multiple times... she's all frontal attack, and fights like she expects everyone else to, even when she knows Sarah plays dirty.
Do you have a preferred title or would you rather victims call you by name?
“Nah,” Sarah says after a beat. “Though calling me a labby will make life much more difficult for you. Shorter as well.”
Have you ever killed? Would you?
“It was self-defense,” Sarah says with a shrug. “She came at me with a knife."
Of course, she neglects to mention the fact that Feraye Nersesis never stood a chance before Sarah ran her through with her own knife and threw her over the second-floor railing. And all the other people she’s killed over the years.
Koutoujian
Be honest… did they deserve it?
The short answer is yes. Koutoujian has so many fucking victims to choose from. As far as some of yours are concerned... she thinks her sister, Nell, should count herself lucky to have not been thrown in a state institution again and left to rot. Drulovic she definitely believes deserves it, as she was not only a terrorist, but a difficult prisoner to control, choosing to make her own life more difficult without reason. The latter is how she justifies a lot of her abuse of prisoners, including of Mizner, Harlowe and even Topher and Zail for their refusal to give up information.
What do you think about caretaker?
"The sooner they send her back to the labs, the better," Koutoujian says of Harlowe with a hateful expression. "Better yet, they should just put her down and be done with it already."
Do you have a preferred title or would you rather victims call you by name?
"Sir" is fine with her. "Interrogator Koutoujian" she'll also accept. Most other things people call her will get her boot in their face.
Have you ever killed? Would you?
“Well, I don’t try to, but in my business, mistakes happen,” Koutoujian says defensively. “You never know how little some people can take until you’ve already done it.”
Lenavee
What do you think about whumpee?
"Mr. Groninger's always been really good to me," Lenavee chirps. "He helped get me out of all the stuff from before, y'know, I went to prison and all. Real nice guy, y'know? I just hope he's okay, now that he's offworld and all."
She won't let on the slightest bit that she loves him and would do pretty much anything to help him... if only behind the scenes, so he'd never find out.
What do you think about whumper?
She's had a ton of whumpers herself since a young age, from the people who stole her from her home and trafficked her as a young girl onward, but I'll pick Usalmy because Usalmy whumps both Lenavee and Morton.
She smiles and nods when Morton talks about Usalmy positively, but she absolutely loathes Usalmy. Almost entirely because of how she treats Morton, but also a bit because Usalmy mistreated her in one of their brief encounters (even before the aforementioned one where Usalmy nearly kills her). She wouldn't admit it, but she enjoys the fact that she has something over Usalmy, namely Usalmy's infidelity, and that Usalmy knows she has that power over her. She would never use it, though.
What do you think about caretaker?
"You mean Arianne and Harlowe?" she asks with a blink. "They're wonderful friends. I wish I was closer with them, but, y'know, they're not much the type to let anyone in. I guess you could also count Mr. - I mean, Wes, as one of those. He's a good friend, I just... I want him to stop judging my other friends, y'know?"
Have you ever killed? Would you?
“I…” Her expression clouds over. “I wouldn’ta done that, just, the guy had a big gun, so…” Her voice nearly breaks, thinking about the attempted mugging, the six shots she fired at the mugger, and everything that followed from it.
She doesn’t even get to thinking about the second part of the question. The answer is that she would absolutely kill someone to protect the people she loves, and make sure no one ever found the body, much less suspected her of it.
Harlowe
What do you think about whumpee?
She's caretaker to so many people, at least in a defender/rescuer sense. A consistent theme with her, though, is that she sees a lot of them (see, for instance, Lenavee and Nell) as innocent and in need of protection... including from herself. This belief not only leads her to keep herself at arms' length from people who care about her and very much want to get to know her, but it also keeps her from seeing her friends for what they really are rather than what she needs them to be. For instance, she fails to recognize how dangerous Lenavee can be, or realize that Zail (and Nell, maybe...?) is in love with her.
What do you think about whumper?
Whumpers in positions of authority like Usalmy and Koutoujian bring out the worst in her, and she likes needling them whenever she's not actively fighting them to defend someone else. Meanwhile, she thinks Sarah in particular is a traitor, for having helped put down the uprising in the labs that Harlowe had a hand in leading as a young adult.
What do you think about caretaker?
Harlowe doesn't have caretakers so much as she has allies and comrades. Mizner (yes, her last-namesake) and Drulovic are the two most obvious examples of this. She trusts them more than anyone else for two reasons. First of all, they've had her back at crucial points when no one else did. Also, they both have proven that they don't see her as a monster despite how both of them have seen what she's capable of when provoked.
Have you ever killed? would you?
“Yes,” Harlowe says, not specifying which question she’s answering. The answer is both. She keeps it quick and clean when she can, but sometimes circumstances haven’t allowed for that.

A tiny sad Lenavee doodle.
[Image description: Black-and-white pen portrait sketch of a pale Girn woman with long, thin ears laid out flat from her head, one antenna drooping, and tears welling in her eyes. Her horns are filed down to short spikes. Her long hair is tied off to one side. Among other recent misadventures, Barclay got himself attacked by a mountain lion.
He was sneaking around trying to break into a politician’s mansion on the orders of his boss to get some dirt for an upcoming election. Turns out his target (or more specifically, his target’s girlfriend) has a rather… unique security system. Between being clawed up, dragged in through the (very large) cat door by the scruff of his neck, and… shall we say, not holding up all that well under stress, Barclay desperately needs a shower and a clean set of clothes. His captor is reluctantly going to allow it, but, ever the type to make poor life choices, he’ll try to break out through the bathroom window.
In his defense, his boss will be very angry to learn he was caught in the act. On the other hand… good luck trying to climb down from a second floor window with those injuries, bro.
Sad little man can’t get anything right.
Meanwhile, Lenavee is on trial for murder. She absolutely shot a guy six times in the head, but at least the first two shots were in self-defense, and the rest were pure PTSD. Still, she refused to take a deal that would’ve gotten her out of further jail time because it would’ve meant ratting out the person she’s in love with. Everyone around her wishes she’d taken the deal. Especially since the dude she’s protecting is already out of reach of the authorities (for now…).
Oh, and a terrorist/paramilitary group from back on her homeworld has been trying to recruit her by threatening everyone close to her, both in and outside of jail. So her life is fun.
What mess has your character gotten into this time?

Find the Word Tag Game
I got a couple of tags for this one -- Thanks!
@whumpsday gave me the words Please, Thank, Hardly, and Softly.
@soheavyaburden gave me the words Burn, Damn, Wince, and Silent.
So, here goes!
Please (Kohat RP with @soheavyaburden):
"The first day that Zail been able to walk without stumbling, even while still leaning against the wall in order to do so, the guards had come to his cell and hauled him, quite easily, by the elbow into the bolted-down chair in the corner of the room without explanation. Before he even could ask what was happening, he heard a snip, and felt the sudden cold of the room against the back of his neck as the hair covering it fell to the floor. He’d broken down completely the first time he'd felt a cut directly to the side of one of his antennae, thrashing wildly even as he realized the danger in doing so. "NO! No! STOP! Please! I'll - I'll tell you anything," he'd promised. 'I'll do anything! Whatever you want, let me -'
The guards paused briefly, as if considering, as he lost the ability to continue speaking, but in the end pulled him back against the chair as he sobbed mutely."
--
Thank (Enclave RP with @skinofafish):
"Topher nods, still looking uncomfortable at the way Richardson describes subjects. However, he figures that, unlike Fletcher (hopefully), the director is too set in his ways to be convinced on this. 'Thank you. I’ll take good care of… of Clay. That’s what he prefers to be called, right?' It would take some adjusting. Alaric and the others generally referred to him by spitting his last name out like an epithet."
--
Hardly (The Scavenger & the Forgotten, Part 6):
"'Nice try,' the man said casually, ignoring Clee as she sputtered to defend herself against the accusation, right before one of the soldiers fired a shot directly into the other woman's head. She collapsed to the ground with hardly a sound, while Radu yelped and jumped back, his clothes now coated in blood."
--
Softly (Kohat RP):
"Lenavee went to Sid’s cell. After a brief look toward her own cell, confirming Erukah wasn't there, she knocked softly on the door."
--
Burn (Enclave RP):
“Barclay stared at Zail warily, half-expecting that this stranger was part of another of Katie’s sick games. When Zail briefly met his eyes, he looked away, his face burning."
--
Damn (Enclave RP):
"'DON’T!' Harlowe yelled. She knew how this ended, when they didn’t play by the rules set by the guards. Seeing her warning was pointless, though, and seeing Koutoujian raising her gun, Harlowe charged the senior guard, bracing for the worst. She took one shot, two shots, three shots, and felt none of them. Not yet. She jumped over the low partition separating the guards from the Scrap Heap and flung herself at Koutoujian, head butting her, taking her to the floor, and then sinking her teeth into Koutoujian’s shoulder.
Koutoujian already had her at point-blank range, though, and shot her to the chest. Damn. Less precise than she’d like, but the labby would bleed out fast enough, even if she hadn’t hit anything vital."
Wince (Kohat RP):
"Harlowe abruptly tore off toward Wes Madaus’s apartment building. She could get into the building easily enough. That was a bad sign.
A better sign, though not for her, was that when she picked the lock, she promptly got a fist to the face.
Rather than stopping there, Fiona Madaus kneed her hard to the gut. 'YOU COULD’VE FUCKING KNOCKED,' Fiona fumed.
Harlowe shook her head with a wince. 'Needed to check.'"
--
Silent (Kohat RP):
"'Now let's see,' Kageki said, moving slowly and deliberately through the crowd of stunned and panicked onlookers. 'I can only spend so long here. Lots of things to see, lots of things to do before my time's up. So, apologies, but I can only spend my time on the people important enough to be worth killing.' He pulled a gun out of his coat with his offhand and pointed it at the head of the other barista. 'How about you,' he said, just loud enough to cut through the sound of screaming. 'How many people will miss you when you're gone?'
The crowd went nearly silent, and people looked to one another, whispering, trying to figure out what to do. The barista whimpered and looked around for support, and her fearful expression intensified into a look of betrayal. She wailed."

Lenavee and Koutoujian
- @soheavyaburden
Thanks for the ask! And ooh, this could be interesting!
TW: Mention of a strip search
If we’re talking about Lenavee being arrested and interrogated on Ganymede, this is incredibly AU, because Lenavee’s never been there. But there’s really no canonically-consistent way to get them around each other for any length of time, at least in the Kohat continuity.
If she’d ended up detained on Ganymede before the government collapsed, she would be to be very outwardly respectful to prison staff, and put on her ditzy act. She’d pick up pretty quickly on the fact that playing innocent wouldn’t work. Coming off as a clueless follower in a criminal enterprise, though, would be worth a shot. In that case, she’d also be speaking in (already heavily-accented) Sol Standard, and stare blankly at anyone who tried to address her in Ganymedean.
Koutoujian would automatically code as a threat to Lenavee, even if Koutoujian were trying to trick her into thinking otherwise. As a general rule, Lenavee would therefore try to stay as uninteresting as possible to Koutoujian, very respectful and compliant, giving Koutoujian useful information (or information that seems useful) that doesn’t implicate anyone she cared about.
On Koutoujian’s end, she could go either of two ways. There’s a good chance she buys Lenavee’s act, especially if she’s got more appealing targets on her mind, and would therefore contemptuously think of Lenavee as typical xeno gutter trash. She’d be more verbally abusive than physically in that case, except to physically degrade her by slapping and invasive strip-searching.
However, Koutoujian’s not stupid; she’s been interrogating people, including career criminals, for decades upon decades by the time Lenavee would’ve been old enough to end up in front of her. The biggest risks of her realizing Lenavee is trying to pull one over on her is if A) she catches Lenavee following a conversation in Ganymedean, or B) if Lenavee tries to manipulate her into doing something she (Lenavee) wants. It would absolutely enrage Koutoujian to have someone like that trick her, and she’d retaliate with massively disproportionate physical violence. She wouldn’t bother with mind games; she’d just go straight for the all-but-literal kill.
Things change a lot if Lenavee has friends or family in there as well. A signature Koutoujian move is to play people off against each other. Sadistic choices, forced to watch, things like that. Turns out this is pretty much the most effective way to torture Lenavee. Koutoujian would enjoy seeing Lenavee’s meek façade break down into utter panic and despair at someone she cares about either betraying her or coming to harm because of her.
Then again, Lenavee is extremely patient, while Koutoujian would barely remember her. If Koutoujian hurt or manipulated her into betraying one of her loved ones, there’s a good chance that Lenavee destroys Koutoujian’s life without Koutoujian seeing it coming as soon as she has the opportunity.

Radu (Whumpee): First name of a random guy who approached me on the job to ask for help. Not a client of mine.
Topher Farley (Whumpee): Last name is my uncle’s; nice enough guy who gets pushed around, so it’s fitting.
Zail Quendatt (Whumpee): I liked how it looked.
Byron Hackett (Whumpee): I just searched for relatively uncommon white guy names.
Harlowe (Caretaker/Whumpee): I was looking for a vaguely androgynous, uncommon name, and I liked this one when I found it.
Lenavee Yuim (Caretaker/Whumpee): I liked how it looked and sounded.
Clee (Caretaker/Whumpee): It just came to mind and it stuck.
Barclay Fletcher (Whumperee): First name was actually the last name of someone involved in a class action case that I worked on against a “troubled teen program,” whose life was unsurprisingly sad. Last name was just what came up in a name generator, and seemed like one that other people could easily say with distaste in their tone.
Sarah Kyzer (nee Maddox) (Whumper): First name is my (good) ex-QPP’s horribly abusive sister. Maddox was already a last name for this Sarah’s sister. Kyzer… just looked cool LOL.
Usalmy Shem (Whumper): I don’t know why, it just looked synesthetically right when I came up with it.
For those with whump OCs, comment/reblog with their names and why you chose those names (if there was any particular reason)
I’m curious about the naming process

For Lenavee:
💔 - Does forgiveness come easily or with difficulty to this oc? Can they forgive others? What about themselves?
💛 - Are they ‘good with children’, or more awkward?
🚷 - Tell one difference between yourself and this oc!
-@soheavyaburden
Thanks for the asks!
Does forgiveness come easily or with difficulty to this oc? Can they forgive others? What about themselves?
Lenavee is one of my rare OCs who is much more on the forgiving side than not. This is especially true where she already has a relationship with a person… sometimes to an extreme degree. She can, though, forgive people she started off on the wrong foot with unless they REALLY fucked up (e.g., repeatedly sexually harassing her or treating her loved ones like shit).
She’s more or less at peace with the worst things she’s done and the traits that allow that, though she wouldn’t describe it that way. She owns them, and she’s confident in her ability not to let them leak out into other parts of her life where they don’t belong.
Are they ‘good with children’, or more awkward?
Lenavee is great with kids! Unfortunately she gained that ability through supporting fellow captives younger than her when she was a teenager, knowing first-hand what they were going through while not being able to stop it. One of the things that makes her good with kids is that she doesn’t have any illusions about “childhood innocence,” knowing/remembering full well that kids can and do go through, come to understand, and even do some really fucked up things.
Tell one difference between yourself and this oc!
Lenavee is terrified of cats… as Girn tend to be, given that cats treat antennae as toys.
Me? I fear no cat.

For Lenavee and Harlowe:
Morbid: How do they feel about death? Their own or others?
Lewd: What’s the worst thing they’ve done for selfish reasons?
Sizzle: Do they have/want a relationship? Are they capable of a healthy one at the moment?
- @soheavyaburden
Thanks for the asks!
TW: Mentions of suicidal ideation and child trafficking
Morbid: How do they feel about death, their own or others’?
Harlowe and Lenavee both expected to die young, Harlowe being a lab subject and Lenavee being a child trafficking victim at the mercy of brutal criminals.
Harlowe has had a harder time adjusting to the fact that her life has gone on longer than she thought. She doesn’t have a death wish, though it can seem like that given how reckless she is. She has an attitude of, if she dies, then she dies, it just better not be a stupid death after all she’s been through.
Now that she’s got a future that’s her own, meanwhile, Lenavee’s planning to live a long time. Earlier in life, though, during the worst of her abuse, she was passively suicidal at times.
They would both be gutted if their loved ones died alone or by unnatural causes, and will pretty much do anything to prevent that. Both of them, though, know that one or more of said loved ones (Drulović especially, for both of them) are very likely to die before they do. Harlowe is resigned to this, and Lenavee tries not to think about it.
Lewd: What’s the worst thing they’ve done for selfish reasons?
For both of them, I’m not going to count thieving, especially because it was usually low-level and for survival (or just about, in Lenavee’s case).
They also both have a quasi-selfish tendency to help other people (including each other!) despite what said people might want at points. It’s more selfish on Harlowe’s part, in that it’s about attempting to get it right this time and successfully protect someone more vulnerable than herself where she failed as a child. Harlowe is more obvious about how she goes about it, though, and Lenavee is better at controlling this impulse.
Outside of that…
Harlowe doesn’t have a single incredibly selfish act, but she does have the tendency to ghost her friends for months at a time only to break into their house unannounced and crash, usually while very injured and requiring emergency medical care. Not malicious, but still a dick move.
Lenavee, though… in the Kohat continuity, she has a pattern now of setting people up as a way of getting them out of the picture, for one reason (protecting someone else) or another (spite). The worst one was when she was about 15. Her closest friend/first crush(?) - a fellow trafficking victim - betrayed her in some way that got her extremely hurt. She knew some of the other kids were acting as informants to law enforcement, and found one who’d been careless enough to keep evidence of it around. She took said evidence and planted it on her former friend, and made sure their captors found out before he could discover and hide it.
She never saw him again. She still feels somewhat guilty - enough that she’ll never tell anyone in her life about it now - but she can’t bring herself to regret doing it either.
Sizzle: Do they have/want a relationship? Are they capable of one at the moment?
Lenavee and Harlowe are both people who act as caretakers to members of their found family - including each other! - while keeping their distance. Harlowe seems more obviously remote, whereas Lenavee is an extremely warm person but not very forthcoming about her thoughts or her life. They both have a tendency to idealize the people they care about.
As far as romantic relationships go, though… this is one of the biggest ways they differ.
Lenavee actively wants a romantic relationship with a guy. In the Enclave continuity, she has a very cute relationship with an absolute cinnamon roll of a guy named James. In the Kohatverse, she’s had a thing for Morton for years that she’s kept under a tight lid, and she’s pretty resigned to the likely possibility that it won’t work out. Apparently, her type is abused autistic older men.
Despite her secretive personality, she is capable of having a healthy relationship. It will be very difficult for her to become more open and straightforward in any sort of relationship, but given that the guys she tends to be drawn to are also extremely traumatized but gentle people, there’s a good chance that she would be able to slowly build mutual trust with her partner. The biggest challenge she has, though, is idealizing a person and being unable to grapple with or even acknowledge his flaws, and that may never fully change.
Harlowe, meanwhile, is an arospec lesbian who doesn’t really know what she wants as far as relationships go. Her healthiest relationships - with people like Mizner in the Kohat continuity and Jinn in the Enclave continuity - could be better described as comrades, siblings-in-arms, or partners in crime than romantic partners. She also gets attached to all the sad puppy whumpees she collects, but drops them like rocks when they don’t live up to her image of them as completely innocent.

For your alignment chart ask game, Lenavee, Radu, and Barclay?
-verkja
Thanks for the asks (these and the yet-unanswered ones lol…)
Lenavee is Neutral Good, tending toward the Chaotic end of the order spectrum and down toward the Neutral part of the morality spectrum.
She was a petty thief and small-time scammer (if only under duress) for most of her childhood, and will lie, steal and manipulate to protect herself and her loved ones. Even her overly deferential way of speaking to and about people with more power than her is as much part of a submissive act as it is something her captors ground into her for years… and is sometimes incredibly backhanded. The traditions and institutions she respects are those of her culture, and not even as a form of defiance against the occupying forces (as it has become for many Hiukree rebels).
Morality-wise, she’s at a base level benevolent, and is a lot of people’s Mom Friend. She’ll throw herself under the bus for someone she loves knowing that they won’t ever know or recognize what she did. BUT. Put her and hers in danger or anything close, and you might find yourself drinking poisoned coffee or locked inside a washing machine.
Radu is solidly Lawful Good, though not the most extremely so of either quality.
As a heavily-conditioned whumpee (especially post-wipe), he’ll generally do what either his whumpers or his caretaker(s) tell him to the best of his ability, even if it hurts him. There’s quite a bit of fear there, of both punishment and abandonment, but there’s also genuine respect for anyone who protects him… or at least tells him they’re doing so. A significant exception to this is his protecting another, younger whumpee against his whumper… which led to him being wiped.
He’s almost a total cinnamon roll, of the variety that wouldn’t even hurt someone in self-defense. But. His loyalty to people he cares about can push him to do intentional harm. The example of this that’s come up so far is purposely mistranslating someone’s statements about one of his former whumpers’ good actions to say that said whumper had done the speaker harm. Granted, Radu did this to make sure that the person in question couldn’t do any more harm, and he didn’t know that the guy would get tortured because of what he said, but he could’ve guessed that it would’ve ended badly for the person he was framing.
Barclay is True Neutral. He drifts all over the place depending on his circumstances, but he never fully and permanently shifts alignment.
Anyone with power who gives him the time of day has his utmost respect, and he’ll do (or not do) a lot to prove himself and stay in their good graces. Throughout his early adulthood, he’d be the type to say he’s just following orders. At the same time, he does have lines he won’t cross, and will engage in minor, hidden forms of disobedience to avoid doing so. Meanwhile, he’s got huge impulse control problems. This leads him to disrespect authority figures or systems that have wronged or misjudged him, under the logic that if he can’t win, he might as well do whatever he wants and give the haters the finger while he’s at it.
As this suggests, Barclay tends to be as good or bad as the people around him and/or their expectations of him. When he’s working in the labs, both Director Richardson’s expectations that he be ruthless with subjects and the disdain of more ethical staff and subjects lead him to become the worst version of himself - cutthroat, bullying, and explosive in temper. When he’s eventually rescued/released from ten years of captivity and torture, though, his rescuers’ belief that he inherently belongs as a worthy member of his found family makes him act his best to deserve that respect… though still with the occasional reactive outburst.

Trying to do work and just sitting here thinking about how @for-the-love-of-angst’s Wick is literally almost a foot taller than I am . . .
So that got me thinking, just how tall is everyone’s OCs? Please reblog and tell me in the tags!

Sorry I have a lot of questions!
- @soheavyaburden
No problem! Thanks for the asks!
Harlowe
☀️ SUN - are they a morning person? what is the first thing they do in the morning?
Harlowe may or may not be a morning person by nature, but she didn’t really have a choice for the majority of her life, so she adjusted. It helps that she doesn’t need much sleep as a general matter. All that being said, when she’s been going and going for a while, she’ll sometimes sleep for 16+ hours at a go… usually after breaking in to one of her friends’ homes through the window.
🙉 HEAR-NO-EVIL - what is the worse thing your oc could hear from someone?
As a general matter, people justifying what happened in the labs as good or necessary will piss her right off, and will likely get her to tell some stories that will give the person saying this nightmares. From a friend or found family member, though - particularly someone she’s protected before - saying or implying that they still think she’s dangerous is devastating to her.
Lenavee Yuim
✂️ SCISSORS - what is the "last straw" for them to cut someone out of their life? how easily do they let go of people?
Lenavee will do Olympics-level mental gymnastics to avoid cutting friends, family members, and other loved ones out of her life (much to many of their dismay in regards to one another). Given that things such as being a known war criminal or literally leaving her to die aren’t dealbreakers when it comes to her closest people, it’d have to be something like one of them directly physically hurting her or one of the others, badly and on purpose, in front of her and with no possible good explanations.
🚆 TRAIN - what is their answer to the trolley problem?
If it was just a bunch of randos, she’d pull the lever to save the five, but kill the other one. She’d feel immense guilt, though, and hold other people even more at arm’s length lest they find out that she’s capable of that.
Once we make it specific, though… if she knows the one person she’d otherwise kill in a positive sense, those five people are fucked. Same if those five were some of the few people she actually outright hates.
Topher Farley
🌪️ TORNADO - what is the biggest change you've ever made to them? how have they changed from their original version?
In his very short-lived first appearance, he was kind of snarky. The other roleplayer in that thought he was an adorable little nerd though, and I started playing him as more of a cinnamon roll when she and I started a new continuity.
Meanwhile, he’s become less outwardly jumpy and more quiet and withdrawn… which makes him a harder character to write for.
Samantha Koutoujian
🎭 MASKS - do they act differently around certain people? what's different between the way they act around friends, family, strangers, etc.?
The only person in her personal life she treats the same way as the people she interrogates is her visibly disabled and genmod sister, as the living proof (as she sees it) of her family’s outcast status. Their parents are gone, so she punishes her sister in their place.
With her friends… it’s a matter of (a much lower) degree than of kind. Friends would generally describe her as fun to hang out with, but she’s the kind of person who will tease her friends in a mean way and will be an asshole toward them while calling it “brutal honesty” or something.
At work, her subordinates (at least the ones who stick around) suck up to her, and everyone else avoids her, either rolling their eyes at her or actively hating her guts.
To strangers outside of work in ordinary life… eh? She’s occasionally impatient and can come off as demanding, but on a scale of 1 to Karen, she’s still only at a 6 or so. Most people won’t be all that bothered by her, though.

36, 43, and 70 and Lenavee!
Thanks for the asks!
36. Why did you decide to help Whumpee?
“So Mr. Gröninger, he helped me first with getting out of a real bad situation. And then he did me one better, protecting me from this guy who worked with me when the jerk started slapping me around. So like, I owed him, y’know? Turns out he’s a real nice guy, too, so helping him out around the office is no trouble at all.”
She doesn’t mention what she’s seen and heard since she started working for Morton. His stomach growling and him nearly falling out of his chair because his wife won’t let him eat. His bosses screaming at him and occasionally physically attacking him. His wife screaming at him over the phone so loud it doesn’t have to be on speaker for her to know. The bruises he tries to hide.
The guy deserves a lot better. She can’t do much, but she’ll do everything she can.
43. Do you see Whumpee as a pet?
Lenavee tilts her head with a curious expression, antennae raised at a quizzical angle. “Don’t think I know what you mean,” she says. “Is that slang for something? I’m still learning the language around here, y’know?”
She definitely doesn’t see Morton like a fliluk, or an uqeldde, or… what are those things with the pointy ears and whiskers that like to attack antennae? A turtle, that was it.
70. Do you respect yourself?
“Of course, why wouldn’t I?” she asks cheerfully.
In truth, she struggles with it still after everything she’s been put through and done to survive. But she figures no one else wants to hear about that kind of thing, nor does she owe it to them.

6 for Harlowe, 7 for Radu, and 29 for Lenavee?
-verkja
Thanks for the asks!!!
Harlowe: How do they react when they try something new and find they're bad at it?
Harlowe has two modes in cases like this. The first is an “Eh, I’ve got better things to do” sort of attitude, which she’d have most of the time. This is the case when there’s nothing significant at stake.
If something’s riding on it, though? She’ll keep trying until she gets it right, or at least passable though to get done whatever it is she needs to, no matter how much it takes out of her.
Radu: What is their biggest insecurity?
Radu knows Clee sees him as a burden, and that he’s been thrown away a couple times already for (supposedly) being a failure or disappointment. He’s just waiting for Clee to ditch him, knowing he can’t survive in this new, unfamiliar setting on his own yet.
Lenavee: A total stranger randomly punches them in the face. How do they respond?
If she can, she’ll read the room and figure out how to get bystanders (familiar or otherwise) to jump in for her, to at least scare the attacker off. Around someone like Harlowe, that might look like acting more scared and injured than she is. On the other hand, if she gets the sense that the people watching might jump in and hurt her for showing weakness, she’ll barely react, and maybe say something superficially polite to the assailant to win bystanders over.
If she’s alone, though, she’ll go (at least for many of the people who have hurt her) frustratingly, even eerily blank when she’s hit, partly out of dissociation and partly out of a desire to give them nothing.

🫂🐶for the ask game :>
🫂 Which character gives the best hugs?
Calvin Hayward (husband of @soheavyaburden’s character Jeff Baker) has the perfect combination of squishy, strong and protective hugs that manage not to be bone crushing.
Lenavee is a close second, giving warm, gentle hugs that manage to be firm enough to provide good deep pressure (having spent enough time around several autistic people to have intuited how comforting that is).
🐶 Which character is the best with animals?
I’m gonna go with Topher here. He’s patient with them and gives them their space, while giving even unplanned adopted pets the best care he can… even acting as a vet under emergencies using his field medic training. He’ll also let an immensely floofy and heavy cat sleep on his face even though he’s immensely allergic to cats.
Radu is also quite good with animals (as well as kids). He’s a very gentle person, and a calming presence to them. He even adopted a wild hare who bonded with him very quickly.
